Frequently asked

How long do banks take to pass on an RBA rate rise?

Across the 4 RBA cash rate rises in 2026, the median lender lifted its variable home loan rates 10 days after the decision, Ratesniffers records. The fastest moved within days; the slowest took up to 36 days.

When will my variable home loan rate go up after the RBA rise?

It depends on your lender. Each lender announces its own effective date. For the 29 September 2026 rise, 36 of the 46 lenders Ratesniffers tracks had announced a date as at 4 October 2026, with a median of 10 days after the decision. Find your lender in the table above.

Do fixed rate home loans change when the RBA moves?

No. A fixed rate stays the same until its fixed term ends. The changes on this page are to variable rates, which most lenders adjust after each RBA cash rate decision. Lenders usually adjust the minimum repayment on a variable loan automatically.

Cite this data: “Ratesniffers home loan rate change tracker, 4 October 2026, ratesniffers.com.au/insights/rate-change-tracker”. Days are calendar days from the RBA decision date to each lender's announced effective date. Lenders that had not announced a change are shown as no change recorded, not as pending.
