Who is CommBank?

Commonwealth Bank is Australia's largest bank and its largest home lender, holding roughly a quarter of the country's mortgage lending, with an owner-occupier loan book in the hundreds of billions. It was founded by the Australian government in 1911 and fully privatised between 1991 and 1996.

CommBank runs the largest branch and ATM network of any Australian bank, around 700 branches, and has extended its commitment to keep all regional branches open until at least 31 July 2027. Its scale shows on the digital side too, with the most-used banking app in the country and a broad product range across every borrower type.

Who suits a CommBank home loan?

CommBank tends to suit borrowers who want maximum branch and service coverage, the full product menu, and the convenience of Australia's biggest banking platform. Scale does not automatically mean the sharpest price though: its advertised rates usually sit above the leaders in our table, so compare its comparison rate against the market before assuming the default choice is the right one.

How much do you need to earn for a $500,000 CommBank home loan?

There is no single salary requirement for a CommBank home loan. The lender assesses income, expenses, debts and repayment capacity.
