Who is Horizon Bank?
Horizon Bank is a customer-owned bank serving the Illawarra and the NSW South Coast since 1964, when it began as a credit union for Illawarra County Council employees in Wollongong. It remains the only banking institution truly based on the South Coast, and grew again in 2021 when Lysaght Credit Union merged in.
Despite its small size it regularly posts some of the sharpest owner-occupier variable rates in the country, and has appeared at or near the top of the Ratesniffers leaderboard.
Who suits a Horizon Bank home loan?
Horizon Bank tends to suit rate-driven borrowers happy to bank with a small regional mutual, and South Coast locals who want branches from Wollongong down the coast. Membership is open beyond the region, so if its rate is leading our table above it deserves a serious look regardless of where you live.
